Crafty Capers 2016

A fabulous week of art and craft workshops and the ever-popular grand show was run by the Sticklepath Fireshow at South Zeal Victory Hall from Tuesday 9 August to Saturday 13 August.

We helped children (and grown-ups!) design, make, decorate and show off all manner of crafty things. We provided the materials and a team of volunteers to help young people realise their designs. We provided opportunities for withy and paper work, yarn crafts, collage, air drying clay work, dress making and other fabric crafts. For very young children there was play-dough, cutting and sticking, painting and junk modelling.

Daily sessions ran from 10am until 12.30pm and 1.30pm until 4pm, at a cost of £2.50 per person, per session.

The final Crafty Capers show, where the weird and wonderful creations were on display, took place in the Victory Hall on Saturday 13 August. The children took part in this performance to model and exhibit their creations – whether beautiful or wacky, hilarious or outrageous. The show was loosely formatted as a fashion show, participants exhibited the items they had been working on and our panel of judges chose their favourites to award prizes to.

This 2016 classes included:

  • An alteration challenge, a garment made from waste materials
  • Depict a wild flower
  • Dress as a Roald Dahl character or book
  • Build a robot
  • Make a "no-sew" action figure or doll
